Frequently Asked Questions

Selling a trading card collection can feel overwhelming—especially if it is your first time. This FAQ answers common questions about card values, the selling process, payments, and more.

General Questions

Why should I sell to MAX Cards?

MAX Cards has over 60 years experience in the industry. We have bought and sold millions of dollars worth of collectibles and offer industry-leading prices, complimentary evaluations, secure shipping, and flexible payment options.

Will MAX Cards buy everything or only my best cards?

Unlike many sellers and auction houses, MAX Cards will NOT cherry pick your collection! If your goal is to sell everything, we will buy everything. We sell through a variety of channels so we are able to utilize cards of all types and values.

What about cards from the 80’s and 90’s?

Aside from a few non-baseball releases, cards from the mid-80’s to early 90’s are usually worth less than $0.01. Unfortunately they end up costing us more to sell than they are worth. We will not buy them if they are the only cards in your collection, but we will still buy them if your collection also contains more desirable cards.

Do you buy modern cards?

Absolutely! We prefer rare inserts and autographs but we will consider just about anything.

Do you assist in tax planning when I sell my collection?

We will work with your CPA to make sure all disposition decisions are prudent.

How do you determine the value of my cards?

Our team of experts evaluates cards based on several factors: current market demand, condition, rarity, player popularity, historical sales data, and authentication/grading. We stay updated on market trends to ensure our offers reflect true market value.

What information should I provide about my collection?

The more details, the better! Include the type of cards (sport/game), era/years, notable players or sets, approximate quantity, condition, and whether any cards are graded or authenticated. Clear photos are extremely helpful for providing an accurate initial offer.

Is there a minimum value for collections you will buy?

While we accept collections of all sizes, our free shipping service is available for collections valued at $250 or more. For smaller collections, you can still use our mail-in option or local drop-off if applicable.

Regions/Countries we service

We purchase collections from across the globe, with a focus on regions where the trading card market is strong and active:

Shipping & Logistics

How should I package my cards for shipping?

Place valuable cards in protective sleeves, toploaders, or card savers. For bulk cards, stack them securely in cardboard boxes. Use bubble wrap and packing material to prevent movement. We will provide detailed packing instructions with your shipping label.

Is my shipment insured?

Yes, all shipments to MAX Cards are fully insured at our expense for the preliminary offer amount. You will receive a tracking number to monitor your package's progress.

How long does the entire process take?

Typically, from initial submission to payment, the process takes 5-10 business days for mail-in submissions. Local pickups are completed the same day. High-value collections requiring special attention may take slightly longer.

Payment Questions

When will I receive payment?

Once you accept our offer, payment is processed immediately. Direct deposits arrive in 1-2 business days, PayPal transfers same-day, and checks within 5-7 business days.

Can I change my mind after accepting an offer?

Before finalizing payment, you can withdraw your acceptance within 24 hours of receiving our final offer. Contact our customer service team immediately if you change your mind.

Do you offer consignment options?

For extremely rare or high-value items, we do offer consignment options. We already work with the largest auction houses in the country, and can guide you in the process if assistance is needed. Ask your MAX Cards representative about this option for qualifying items.

Special Situations

Do you buy cards in poor condition or commons/base cards?

Yes, we purchase cards in all conditions, including bulk common cards. While mint condition and star players command premium prices, we also buy lower-condition vintage cards and modern commons.

What if I do not know the value of my collection?

That is why we are here! Our experts specialize in identifying value even in unsorted collections. Do not worry if you are unsure what you have - our free appraisal service will help determine the true value of your cards.

Can I sell a partial collection?

Absolutely. You can choose to sell your entire collection or just specific cards or sets. We are happy to work with you to determine which approach makes the most sense for your situation.

Do you buy other collectibles besides cards?

While our primary focus is on cards, we also purchase related collectibles such as autographs, tickets, game-used equipment, comic books, coins, and select premium items. Contact us with details about your collection for consideration.
